Consider This

Consider This “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.” Hebrews 3.1, 2 “Oh, that he had more consideration at our hands! Consider him; you cannot know all his excellence, all his value to you, except he is the subject of your constant meditation. Consider him; think of his nature, his offices, his work, his promises, his relation to you: ‘Consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;’” (Spurgeon)

Before anyone can “consider,” he must first have been a partaker of the heavenly calling. Being a partaker indicates something more than simply going fishing with someone. It speaks of being in association with someone. (See Luke 5.7 for “partners” in the fishing) Having become partakers of the heavenly calling offers more blessings than anyone can imagine.

Partakers are afforded future blessings because of our association with the One, true saving God – the Lord Jesus Christ. Through His work on the Cross we are made heirs together with Christ Himself. (Romans 8.17) Through Him we lay up treasures for our selves in places which are completely secure and free from corrosion. (Matthew 6.19, 20) Only a Partaker has that privilege.

But, Partakers also have benefits in this life. “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16.11) While Psalm 16 speaks about our Savior and of His deliverance from the grave, it also promises to show the “path of life” (the way of the living). On that road we find blessings with which the world cannot identify.

Then, the Partaker should consider the One who makes all of this happen. Salvation’s blessings are no more earned than salvation itself. Salvation along with its blessings are gifts from God. (Ephesians 2.8, 9) They all originate from the Apostle (“sent one, ambassador”) and High Priest (“mediator and representative”).

Being our go-between, our Savior/God has been, is, and will be faithful to His calling. He worked the plan and He bears our profession (“confession”) before the Father. There He faithfully presents His own blood as our defense and only plea. When we come into the presence of our Father, we do so on the merit of the One who has called us into a relationship and has cleansed us from all our sin through His personal suffering. There, He intercedes for us who otherwise have no hope. In Christ, the Partakers have free access to God’s Throne of Grace. (Romans 8.34; Hebrews 7.25Copyright © 2025 Dr. John H.
