Worry?

Worry? “Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37.1-5 The world is a fretful place in which even the most dedicated followers of Christ find themselves at odds with one another. While we may show concern, we should remember that we were warned. We have been told plainly that during the last days perilous times would come. (II Timothy 3.1)

Not only would there be nation against nation; but also conflicts within families – daughters in great conflict with mothers and sons rebelling against fathers. The conflicts created by politics have invaded deeply within the body of Christ while the demons of hell rejoice over the fact that many devout Christians squabble over things temporal rather than clinging to the things eternal.

Nations come and go along with national leaders. No matter how you slice it, power within a government or in the hands of a ruler are short-lived at best. Even within organizations (Christian colleges and churches) based upon God’s Word and leaders who dedicate their work to God, soon come to an end when considered within the realm of eternity.

We tend to fret when we should pray. We tend to bank on the temporal rather than laying up our treasures in heaven. We cling to the immediate and sacrifice the permanent. We trust in human imagination rather than leaning completely on the will of the Sovereign God – the Creator and Sustainer of it all.

If you are a follower of Christ, you must have offered your life on the altar of His sovereignty fully expecting Him to be in control of your life. With that in mind, is it possible to escape His watch-care and protection? Is it possible to be in a situation in which God is unaware? Do you think that it might be remotely possible that God doesn’t know what is transpiring in our nation? In our churches? In our homes?

Whoever are the evil doers, they shall be soon cut down as the grass. The followers of Christ have a responsibility to trust in the Lord and do good. We also have a responsibility to pray for our leaders – whether we agree with them or not. (I Timothy 2.1-4)

Let us not forget that there is great power when we are in our prayer closets on our knees. Let us not forget that our God is still on the throne and that this world with all that is in it is fleeting and transitory.
