Your Place in History

“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4.14

A beautiful girl named Esther found herself a part of an enslaved harem under King Ahasuerus (most probably Xerxes). She, along with other beauties, was offered the best of things in order to make them pleasing to the eye of this heathen king. Although she was living in privilege and surrounded by luxury, Esther was still a slave. Esther had been raised by her uncle because she had been orphaned early in life. Her people, the Jews, were also living under the iron hand of a tyrannical leader who could destroy life at a whim. Their very existence was, at best, precarious.

Because of the envy of a “ladder-climber” in the kingdom who wanted to have all the Jews destroyed, Esther was placed in a most precarious position. She could remain silent hiding her Jewish nationality and watch her people and her family destroyed; or, she could step up and approach the king hoping that he would hear her rather than put her to death.

Hearing that her uncle Mordecai had clothed himself in the garments of grief, Esther tried on at least two occasions to console him. He would have none of it. While he and Esther were relatively safe, their people were not.

This beautiful young lady, who had without the aid of cosmetics, won the heart of the king was now thrust into the political arena while wearing her nationality and religion as a garment. She had to make a choice which could result in her own execution.

Mordecai expressed the fact that the Jewish nation would survive – and, would flourish somewhere even though they may be completely destroyed in and around the kingdom of Ahasuerus. God had made a promise to Abraham that his seed would endure. (Genesis 12) The lives of the family and friends of Esther and Mordecai were at stake.

Without a promise of success, Esther stepped up and, with a brilliant plan, approached the king and the “ladder-climber” to the saving of her household.

Each believer has been placed in a special position in which we may bring praise and glory to our Savior-God. Due to peer pressure and political correctness, many have abandoned the work to which our God has commissioned us. We walk the path of least resistance while our friends and family are in danger of hell fire – not warning them of the wrath to come. We enjoy our peace and luxury while the enemy of humanity snares more souls.

There is someone within your sphere of influence who needs to hear of God’s Salvation through Christ. It may be that you are the only one who can reach that special someone in your life. Who knows, but maybe you have been placed in that person’s life in order to reach them with the love of God.

Maybe you are where you are for such a time as this.
